Personality
Ariel is a girl who has lived in the city for all her life, but despite the exposure to a large crowd of people, Ariel feels like she doesn’t quite fit in. A rebellious girl who demands a lot of freedom, Ariel loves to go into the wild and especially to swim in the sea or wade in the water, and as such, is often too stubborn for her own good. Ariel is not anti-social, yet she is not a social butterfly either. She loves meeting new people, but also has her own small group of close friends whom she cherishes very much.

Ariel also spends much of her time daydreaming, and as such, has a tendency to be late in many things she does. Despite this, Ariel is sincere in all she does. She also enjoys crafting in her free time, reusing and recycling whatever she can find in her random collections. With these refurbished collections, she earns her own pocket money by selling them, or simply by donating the toys she has made out of the random material in her room. For all her crafting hobbies, Ariel also loves flea markets, buying what others have abandoned, because she believes that everything has its use in the world and did not deserve to be flung away in a few years’ time.

City life was not for her, Ariel felt, and one day she hoped to be able to move into Powhatan for all its peace and greenery, and to officially set up a shop of her own to share her crafting collections with other people.
Being the youngest child of all in a family of seven girls, Ariel lost her mother at a young age. She was cherished as the last gift which her mother has bestowed upon the family. Having lost maternal care in their young ages, Triton, the father of these seven daughters, sought to provide them both with discipline and tender care, in the hopes that they would not feel as sharply the lack of a mother in their lives. This, however, did not stop Ariel from constantly questioning her father about her mother. Triton would not expose the truth to his daughter at such a young age, but only told her that her mother had gone to a place far, far away.

Ariel grew to be an active girl, always interested in whatever she could find or pick up. Because Triton always had other duties to attend to in the house, or at work, the girls very much had to look out for each other. As Ariel was the youngest, she was the most fussed over, and at the same time, the most pampered child in the household, which led to her rebellious and stubborn nature. It was not what was on the other side of the field that attracted her, but the bird inside her very own cage, willing itself to be let out, free of its metal bars.

As a result of being doted on –sometimes too extremely – Ariel took to wandering out into the fields and onto the beach, collecting seashells and wading in the water. That was when her love of collecting things began, for she was always with a large group of society, but she never made very close friends, only acquaintances, and in her room full of random collections, she could always revel in their beauty that one day she would be able to recreate them into beautiful, useful things.

The first time Ariel snuck out of the house to the seaside was at the age of 8. She had been heavily reprimanded after that, when Triton had found out from his eldest daughter, Aquata about her secret adventure. Ariel had been furious with her eldest sister, but her love for her family did not let the feud last for long. However, from then on, Ariel kept her love for the sea a secret, even from her dearest sisters.

Ariel loved the sea. She had heard many fearful stories about the sea from her father and the oldest maid in the house, but if there was one way to instill fear in Ariel, telling her evil stories of it was not it – it only made her ever more fascinated.

At age 15, Ariel finally discovered that her mother had drowned by the sea in her daily strolls along the beach picking seashells. Ariel’s mother, while being a practical woman, was also nonetheless a daydreamer at heart, and had ventured too far out and slipped into the water. For this reason, Ariel also reminded Triton very much of his late wife, and seeing Ariel evoked in him pride, joy and pain all at the same time.

Despite having learnt this fact very suddenly in her teenage years, Ariel did not hate the sea for that. She believed that whatever bad things may have happened in the sea, it still possessed beauty. She wanted to swim, to see the little creatures that resided underneath the blue sheets, and to learn that it was not an evil place.

Secret visits were a joy to Ariel, but she longed for more freedom, and by 19 years of age, as she entered her first year at Balamb University, Ariel chose to live in the university dorms, tasting independence for once and not quite sure whether she could fit in yet. In addition to this newfound sense of freedom, Ariel also took up Marine Biology as a major in University, for her love of the life under the sea.

Ariel hardly takes part in school activities as she spends hours and hours after school going back to part of her collection stowed away in her dorm room.
